Finally got my NewBeauty Test Tube in the mail today. I have some positive and some negative things to say about it. But first let me start off by explaining briefly what it is.
Similar to Birchbox, NewBeauty is a sampling subscription service. Basically, you get the test tube 4 times a year, and it is $29.99. Approximately the same price as Birchbox (10 dollars a month; Birchbox= $30 every 3 months; Test Tube) and you get about the same amount of samples overall. Approximately 12-15 samples per 3 months. But you also get a New Beauty Magazine, which is HUGE and a really good mag that takes me hours to get through. Here is what I got in my test tube:
Clockwise from the left-
New Beauty Magazine ($9.99 on news stands)
Dr. Denese Self-Tanning Glove ($42 full size box)
Clean Anti-bacterial Hand Cream ( $18 Full size)
MorrocanOil Luminous Hairspray ($21 full size)
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Body Cream ($45 full size)
Kerstin Florian Correcting Oil-Free Daily Defense Cream ($55 full size)
Lashfood Eyebrow Condtioner ($120 full size)
Lumene Vitamin C Radiant Day Creme ($20 full size)
BoostIt! Complexion Enhancer ($15 full size)
Ahava Day Moisturizer ($35 full size)
Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser ($32 full size)
Positive- Most of these products are VERY high-end. I really enjoy that because they are not usually something I would bother to try out because they cost so much money for full-sized products. I’ve tried a few of them and so far I’m very happy with what I got. Very excited to try the Dr. Brandt stuff because I have heard amazing things about them. The New Beauty magazine is twice the size of a regular magazine with half the ads. Lots of helpful tips and good articles.
Negative- I ordered this on April 4th. I received it on May 7th. The fact that it took THAT long to receive my first Test Tube is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the shipping process was unbearably slow. Another thing was that I decided to order a Test Tube after seeing previous ones on youtube. This particular test tube was pretty sparse compared to other months. I was really disappointed that all the ones before it had MANY more items, some even full sized. I wasn’t too excited once I opened the tube and saw nothing but little jars and tubes. Also, with shipping this costs $38. It’s honestly not worth $38…maybe $20 including shipping.
Needless to say, while I’m having fun trying all these new samples out, I cancelled my subscription. I am poor and if I have to choose between Birchbox and NewBeauty, Birchbox wins out for sure.
